PRIZE OFFERED FOR THE SCHOOL WITH THE MOST WADADLI PEN SUBMISSIONS

Wadadli Pen announces the return of a school prize for the school with the most submissions, a prize last offered in 2005 – not surprisingly the competition’s best year in terms of number of submissions. The gift will be something of benefit not just to the individual but to the wider school community. The organizers of the Wadadli Pen Challenge 2012 being held in corporation with the Best of Books urge language and literary arts teachers, especially, to embrace this as an opportunity to challenge their students.

Antigua & Barbuda Celebrates World Wetland Day, on Feb 02

The health of mangrove ecosystems continues to be the focus of the Environment Division’s Education Unit within the year 2012. Focus is now being placed on the mangrove systems in the Johnson’s Point area as the Division and the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) consider activities commemorating World Wetlands Day.

“We are looking at programs that will involve the whole community and encourage an understanding of mangroves and their functions. People take better care of what they understand.” said Environment Education Officer Arica Hill.

100 postgraduate scholarships for professionals in the agriculture sector

An agreement between IICA and CONACYT in Mexico has been signed for the award of 100 scholarships annually for masters and doctoral studies in that country.

San Jose, Costa Rica, February 2, 2012 (IICA). Professionals within the agriculture sector of the Americas wishing to pursue a Masters, PhD or specialized studies in Mexico can now apply for one of the 100 scholarships offered by CONACYT and IICA.

Secondary School Embarks on Beach Cleaning Activity

26 January 2012, St. Johns-Antigua: The students of the Trinity Academy have embarked on a community service project beach cleanup initial themed “10 of 365 – I can’t do everything but I can do something”.

So far, the students have successfully concluded four beach clean-ups at the Ffryes Beach, Morris Bay, York’s Beach and Darkwood Beach.

This initiative forms part of the school’s curriculum, which enable students to balance academics with civic pride.

Recycling Competition Begins Again

26 January 2012, St. Johns; Antigua: Recycling has become a buzz-word again in schools across Antigua. The Antigua and Barbuda Waste Recycling Corporation (ABWREC), in collaboration with the Environment Division, has launched its Inter-Schools Recycling Competition 2012 for the period January 9th to May 22nd 2012.
