Joanne C. Hillhouse, Author, Freelance Journalist, Editorial Consultant, Producer

Joanne C. Hillhouse provides writing and editing services for all media. The writer/journalist has a Communications Degree from the University of the West Indies and has also participated in creative writing programmes mounted by the University of Miami, Ithaca College, and Middlebury College. Awards include a UNESCO Honour Award for contribution to literacy and the literary arts, two PAHO certificates of merit for health journalism, and an Environmental Journalist of the Year award.

Writer
Joanne C. Hillhouse authored The Boy from Willow Bend and Dancing Nude in the Moonlight, prompting St. Lucia’s Island Where magazine to describe her as “a powerful, honest voice in the genre of West Indian fiction”. Her fiction and poetry have been widely published. She was a 2008 fellow at the prestigious Breadloaf Writers Conference, and has participated in festivals, readings, and conferences in the Caribbean, Canada, and America.
Hillhouse has also written reviews and features for a wide variety of publications; including Américas, Caribbean Beat, She Caribbean, the CLR James Journal, Life in Antigua, and A Little Bit of Paradise.
She’s penned TV/radio scripts for the Caribbean Family Planning Affiliation, Antigua and Barbuda’s Waste Recycling Corporation, and others; among these TV’s Pet Playhouse and Teen Talk serials.

Journalist
Hillhouse honed her journalistic skills writing for ABS TV, Antigua Sun, Caribscope, the OECS Advocate, and others; since 2002, she’s been a regular freelance contributor to Antigua’s Daily Observer.

Editor
Hillhouse served as editor of Monica Matthew’s book, Journeycakes; and was managing editor of commemorative publications for the Daily Observer, the Antigua Calypso Association, the Girl Guides Association of Antigua and Barbuda, and Antigua’s committee to commemorate the bicentenary of the British Empire Atlantic Slave Trade.

Editorial Consulting
Hillhouse has written and/or edited company histories, advertisements, brochures, reports, newsletters, magazines, press releases, web sites, letters, and more. Clients have included the Antigua and Barbuda Investment Authority, Antigua and Barbuda Development Bank, ABI Financial Group, Cable & Wireless, Catamaran Hotel, Chosen Sounds, Commonwealth Youth Programme Caribbean Centre, Community First Cooperative Credit Union, Jolly Beach Vacations, Scenic Tours Antigua, among others.
