Set for October 2, it’s expected to be the highlight of Youth Week, which runs from September 26 to October 2. The public has until July 31 to send in their nominees for the top spots. A recent circular from the Youth Department invited nominations of young Antiguans and Barbudans between the ages of 10 and 35. Specifically, they’re looking for contenders in the following categories: young journalist and youth-friendly media house; culture and the performing arts; the literary arts; the visual arts; entrepreneurship; community service – with one individual and one group award up for grabs; young professional; young pioneer and young artisan.
Meanwhile, prizes will also be awarded in the fields of agriculture, education, sports and tourism with nominations entered by the relevant stakeholder groups. Barbudans, through the Barbuda Council, will identify Barbuda’s best. The public is also asked to identify corporations and individuals that have been involved with and shows much interest in the youth. Corporate and lifetime achievement awards will also be offered. The Youth Department expects to present 34 awards in 2010. Nominations and other offers of support should be submitted to the Youth Department (HYPERLINK mailto:wadadliyouthdept@gmail.com wadadliyouthdept@gmail.com or 268-783-6858). Not a moment too soon, as 2010 to 2011 will be the International Year of Youth, the Youth Department reveals. Antigua’s Youth Week is built around Caribbean Youth Day, observed across the region on September 30.
