Chairman of the Carnival Development Committee (CDC) Vaughn Walter declared that Carnival 2010 was off to a grand start on Saturday night. The festivities received much praises and accolades. According o many, Vaughn Walter is working miracles with very limited financial resources. The Opening program committee, headed by Dulcie Looby-Greene, worked hard and produced an excellent program. Many of the revelers playing T-shirt mas’ said they were ready for Carnival 2010.
The highlight of the program was honoring Legends and Giants of Carnival. The Carnival enthusiasts were delighted of the recognition for their dedication to the festival throughout the years. The men were presented with plaques of appreciation on Saturday when the opening day parade culminated at Carnival City. During the parade, the honourees rode on floats in the opening day parade procession that was held under the theme, “Carnival – Uniting People.” Carnival’s Grand Marshall is businessman Wills Martin, one of the major contributors to the summer festival.
The annual appeal for residents to exercise caution while revelling on the streets during Carnival has been renewed for this year.
“This is something that we have been always saying to revellers,” Chairman of the Carnival Development Committee (CDC) Vaughn Walter said. “While you are enjoying the fun and the frolic, it doesn’t make sense that you are going to try to be running close to a truck for a truck driver to run over your foot as the case might be.”
He added, “People have got to always realise that while they are having fun and frolic and revelry and drinking and so on, that they have to drink responsibly.”
Antigua Carnival 2010 opened with a bang and a blast.
