This year's National Youth Week begins on September 26, 2010 and culminates on October 2, 2010. The week takes in Caribbean Youth Day on September 30. In addition, this year has been declared International Year of the Youth -- IYY (August 12, 2010, to August 12, 2011). One of the highlights of the Week is National Youth Awards 2010, to be held on October 2, 2010. National Youth Awards (NYA) are conferred on young people between the ages of 10 and 35 years, who have demonstrably excelled in different fields of developmental activities and social service. These young people are commended for their dedication to excellence and are held as role models to other youths. General Criteria: All Nominees must be: of the age group 10-35 years; nationals of Antigua & Barbuda, resident in Antigua, in good social standing.
Awards will be given in 34 areas. National Youth Awards also recognizes the contributions of adults who would have contributed to youth development. NYA 2010 will honour 5 adults who over the years have contributed significantly to the development of our young people, particularly at the national level. Nominations are invited from the public for both youth and adult candidates. All nominations should reach the Department of Youth Affairs by July 31.
