AHTA taking part in the Opening of Carnival 2009

The Antigua Hotel and Tourism Association is taking part in the opening celebration of Carnival 2009. The AHTA Team will represent the Hotels within Antigua and Barbuda, their associate members and others that want to participate in this joyous event.
The AHTA Team worked together with Search Antigua Inc on the design for the T-shirts that will be worn during this T-shirt Mass. The T-shirt mass is scheduled on the 25th of July and the parade starts at 2.00pm and will pass through the streets of St.John's.

Antigua's Jamaica association makes proposals for immigration reform..

The Jamaica/Antigua Association wants government to consider having a special building for use as an Immigration Holding Facility. This idea was among a list of others which the association has proposed for government’s consideration in its drive to come up with a new immigration policy. Minister of National Security Dr. Errol Cort said Interim President of the association Andrew McDonald submitted a list of recommendations. Dr. Cort shared them with the public during the consultation on immigration and electoral reform which was held last Wednesday evening.

Developing and strengthening fisher-folk organizations in Antigua & Barbuda.

Attempts to develop and strengthen fisher-folk organizations in Antigua & Barbuda have had minimal success, due to the independent nature of fishers, according to chief Fisheries officer Cheryl Appleton.
The fisheries chief said observation has proved that general feelings of mistrust created by issues such as piracy and user conflict are causes for concern.
“Now more than ever fisher-folks organizations need to be strong to face the challenges of globalization. For only as a unified group will they be able to take advantage of some of the benefits of globalization,” said Appleton.

Agnes Meeker is FAWCO Foundations volunteer of the year

St. John’s, Antigua (2 April 2009) – Agnes Meeker, who was a founding member of the board of the American Women’s Club (now called the International Women’s Club of Antigua and Barbuda) and who originated the idea for the Club’s Christmas Hamper program, is the recipient of the FAWCO Foundation’s Mary Mag Haas ‘Volunteer of the Year’ Award for the time and dedication she has shown to clubs and community organizations in Antigua and Barbuda.

Food hampers brings Christmas joy to the needy

St. John’s, Antigua (18 December 2008) – Twenty six women of the International Women’s Club of Antigua and Barbuda got packing today for the annual Christmas Hamper Program, which brings much joy to the elderly, handicapped and the needy.

Cushion Club Thanks Patrons

The Cushion Club would like to say hearty thanks to the Best of Books and the 3rd Antigua Girl Guides for making its last gathering of the year so memorable. Long time patron of the kids reading club, Best of Books contributed the prizes for the most consistent children of the September to December meeting period. These book prizes went to most improved Shamar Payne, second runner up Zuri Holder and overall winner Bashiri Joseph.
