Author Pam Grier to Participate in Antigua & Barbuda Literary Festival in November

Internationally known actress Pam Grier, who has recently written her memoirs, will be highlighted at the Antigua & Barbuda International Literary Festival to be held November 4-6, 2010 at the Jolly Beach Resort and Spa.

Her book, “Foxy: My Life in Three Acts,” was published by Grand Central Publishing this spring. It details her career from her rise as an actress in blackploitation films of the 1970s and her breakthrough role in Quentin Tarentino’s film “Jackie Brown” to her romantic involvements with Kareem Abdul Jabar, Freddie Prinze and Richard Pryor.

During the Festival, she will be the guest of honour at the Dinner and a Movie fundraiser featuring the film “Jackie Brown,” to be held on November 5. In addition, she will take part in a discussion of her book and a book signing on November 6.

Among the other authors who are participating in the Festival are Trinidadian novelist Elizabeth Nunez, Guyanese poet Grace Nichols, Guyanese children’s author John Agard, Belize novelist Zee Edgell, and Jamaican poet Lorna Goodison. Activities during the Festival include a Children’s Reading Convocation for primary school students, the traditional Youth Day for secondary school students, and workshops open to the public.

Biography on Pam Grier:

Pam Grier began her acting career and achieved fame in the early 1970’s when she starred in a number of popular films including “Coffy,” “Foxy Brown,” and “Sheba Baby.” In the 1980’s, her accolades continued as Pam worked alongside Paul Newman in “Fort Apache: The Bronx,” starred Ray Bradbury’s “Something Wicked This Way Comes,” and earned an NAACP Image Award for Best Actress in a play through her role in “Fool for Love” by Sam Shepard.

In the 1990s, her performance as the title character in Quentin Tarantino’s “Jackie Brown” earned her nominations for Best Actress from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Golden Globe, the Screen Actors Guild, and the NAACP in 1997. She made historical television credits though her roles in “Miami Vice,” “Crime Story,” “Law and Order: SVU,” James Patterson’s “First to Die” on NBC, and Showtime’s “Linc’s” and “The L Word.” Additionally, her performance as the Nightingale in HBO’s “The Empress’ Nightingale” earned her an Emmy Nomination from The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 2000.

In 2010, her memoirs, titled “Foxy: My Life in Three Acts,” was published by Grand Central Publishing. She recently completed work on a new film written and directed by Tom Hanks and starring Julia Roberts titled “Larry Crowne.” She appears in two films released in 2010 including “Just Wright” and “The Invited.”

Currently, Pam spends her time acting, writing, and producing for television, film, and theater. She lives in rural Colorado with her beloved dogs and horses.
