November 8, 2009 …It was indeed an event for the entire family. The Seafood Fiesta held at the Urlings Wharf got off to a “hot” start grills were fired up with lobsters; grabs, garlic bread; patrons dancing to the music, and children bouncing in the castle provided for them:
Enjoying the variety of seafood’s were Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer, Finance Minister Harold Lovell, Minister of Agriculture, Lands, Housing & the Environment Hilson Baptiste and Minister of State with Chanlah Codrington
Compared to previous held on July 19, there was a significant showing of tourist. There was an estimated showing of approximately 2,500.
The occasion saw a magnificent display of seafood. It was a festive atmosphere as patrons turned out in droves to sample the mouth-watering seafood and to check out the entertainment package
The seafood fiesta is a work in progress and as it grows to be a household name, it will be fine-tuned.
Patrons are impressed with the improvements being made and are requesting that the Ministry of Agriculture, Lands, Housing & the Environment hold such activity on a monthly basis at various landing sites.
There was an abundance of different seafood on display that tantalised the taste buds. The wonderful gastronomic delights had bodies filling the stalls and booths to feast on the different seafood dishes that were served with side dishes such as garlic bread, rice, bakes.
The food though was only one aspect, as there was also entertainment. From bounce castle, information booth, fishing competition, swimming competition, and boat tour there was something for everyone.
Some patrons rocked to the music that blared through the speakers, while others took a dip in the sea to cool down as a result of a very hot afternoon.
Inclement showers later in the evening did not interrupt the seafood fiesta, patrons held their grounds and sought shelters under nearby, tents and shed.
The event was held to promote sustainable fishing.
