Helix gaming contributes to JCI Antigua

Despite current economic challenges some are still giving. This week the JCI Antigua received a $5,000 contribution from Helix Gaming represented by Managing Director Mr. Stuart Gordon, to go towards training and development within the organization. This contribution made by Helix Gaming in a time when most businesses have become reluctant to make charitable contributions can inspire others to rise to the challenge.

JCI Antigua is a part of a worldwide federation of young active citizens which focuses on leadership, entrepreneurship and social responsibility. The organization offers its membership opportunities to plan and actively manage several major community oriented projects including the Jaycees Caribbean Queen Show, Health Expo and the Cancer Awareness Program all of which are annual undertakings with a total budget of approximately $500,000 ECD. The organization also hosts a number training sessions some of which are opened to the public.

Training topics slated to be covered this year will focus on professional development, personal growth and civic responsibility.

This year JCI Antigua will be celebrating 50 years of operation here in Antigua and will conduct a week of activities to be held in May. Members of the public would be invited to participate as we celebrate this historic milestone.

A number of corporate entities including the ABI Group and the Kennedy’s Club amongst others have demonstrated their commitment for the growth our young people by making exceptional contributions through partnering with the organization in execution of its many projects.

There has not been any statistics on charitable giving in Antigua and Barbuda, however, JCI Antigua is in the process of spearheading an initiative that would lead to greater recognition and even concessions through the government of Antigua and Barbuda for companies that make significant contributions to charities here in Antigua and Barbuda.

JCI is a worldwide network of nearly a quarter of a million members – young leaders in their 20s and 30s – in over one hundred countries and territories. Through various local, national and international projects and events, JCI members meet, learn and grow. JCI also has millions of alumni, many of whom provide support to active members.

Focusing on JCI’s Vision, “to be the leading global network of young active citizens,” JCI members endeavor to carry out JCI’s Mission -- “to provide development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change.”
