The opportunity exists for students between the ages of five and 17 to
showcase their artistic skills by submitting entries for this year’s Antigua Sailing Week Schools’ Signboard Competition.The Antigua Sailing Week, in partnership with LIAT, has announced the launch of the competition to coincide with the annual regatta, which challenges the young artists to depict what Sailing Week means to him/her. The sponsor’s name, LIAT, and the words Antigua Sailing Week must be incorporated as part of the painting. Each piece submitted “must be the original work of one child only; can be in any medium or combination of mediums (example pencil-crayons, wax crayons, markers, water colours, airbrush, etc),” a release from the Antigua Hotels & Tourist Association said.“It should not be smaller than 12” x 6”; ... a painted border is suggested, but no
frames please. The name,age, school and contact details of the artist must be clearly printed at the back of the painting.“No names should be visible on the front.Entries are limited to one per person. No computergenerated
entries will be accepted,” the release added. Only entries meeting the above criteria will be eligible for entry.Further, a total of nine winners, the first, second and third places in each of the three age categories (five to eight; nine to 12; and 13 to 17) will be chosen, and
individual creativity and fresh ideas will be especially recognised.
Airline tickets,iPods, art supplies and other fabulous items are
among the prizes to be won,the release said. The winning piece in the Senior Division will become the welcoming sign for visitors to the English
Harbour area for next year’s Sailing Week.All posters must be delivered to the Antigua Hotels & Tourist Association, Island House Building on Newgate Street. The deadline for submission of entries is 5 pm on Wednesday, March 31. Last year’s winning entry was submitted by Jeniece St Romain of
Antigua Girls’ High School,and is currently being displayed on the signboard at the corner near Cobbs Cross Primary School. Antigua Sailing
Week 2010 will be held from Saturday, April 24 through Saturday, April 30.
