ICT Entrepreneur Ken Shipley left the island Tuesday to conduct a workshop in St.Vincent at the invitation of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), part of its ongoing anniversary roadshow.
The CTU is celebrating its 20th anniversary and its Antigua road show
stop was timed to coincide with the country's annual ICT Fest.
Shipley, founder of Search Antigua, was one of the Fest's workshop facilitators. Bernadette Lewis, secretary general of the CTU, was so impressed, she invited him to hit the road with them.
This week's workshop in St.Vincent is only one of several planned engagements for Mr. Shipley on the region-wide tour. He's expected to present to small businesses on ways of boosting profits using ICT. He'll talk to them about free online tools, why they need to have a website, why a website is more important than a business card, internet marketing and related issues. He plans to stress the ways the Internet enables you to build a community around your business and to be proactive in managing your image. He described ICT ,as a tool, as time saving inexpensive and a necessity, among other things.
Shipley, a Youth award winner and an ICT Fest web designer winner, is clearly excited about what he does and with good reason.
In a troubled economy, he's in a sector that is actually seeong some growth. He started his company in 2007, just him and a computer in his bedroom.
He now has offices downtown, a staff of four and several sister companies, www.AntiguaPressReleases.com, www.TasteAntigua.com and www.AntiguaTshirts.com
Being a part of the CTU Roadshow will obviously help with regional networking. " I am looking forward ti it" he said en route to St.Vincent : I just want to interact with the people and get a feel for what technology is down there"
