Cynthia Laviscount said she knows that her company’s “Spring Break Antigua” initiative is destined to bring benefits to Antigua and Barbuda. The Managing Director of Viscount Enterprises, Ltd. and Chief Coordinator of “Spring Break Antigua” said a number of individuals on the island would be employed throughout the duration of the festive Easter event. According to Laviscount, companies in the food and beverage industry and local entertainers will be among the beneficiaries of the venture. She also pointed to the potential revenue from the hotel and departure taxes. “Spring Break Antigua” was officially launched on January 21, 2010 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium and is scheduled to run from March 15 through April 4, 2010.
Although international students are the main targets of the event, Laviscount said that the appeal is equally extended to the local students. The American University Antigua (AUA) and the University of the West Indies (UWI) students as well as the members of the general public are all being encouraged to be a part of this new and exciting experience. “Fryes Beach will be transformed into “Spring Break City” Laviscount said. There, games and other similar activities will be held during the day; these will be followed by concerts in the evening. A “night club” of sorts will also be created at this location. Laviscount noted that the majority of the events would be catering to the students. Activities will be available for everyone to enjoy. On Sundays for example, Laviscount said that fun rides and slides and other “family-friendly” activities will be on the beach. All activities held during the day will be free of charge; however, those held in the night will have a fee attached.
