Mount St. John’s Medical Centre (MSJMC) announces the “GOOD SAMARITAN”. The hospital has partnered with Mark Brown and the first year Art Students at the Antigua State College to showcase a thought provoking collection of artwork based on their expression of the theme “Good Samaritan”. All pieces will then be donated to the hospital following the event.

ANTIGUA & BARBUDA Joins Worldwide Effort to Raise Awareness of Silent "Sight Thief" as Part of World Glaucoma Week

ANTIGUA & BARBUDA will join organisations and eye care professionals around the world beginning on Sunday March 7th, 2010 to March 13, 2010, to observe World Glaucoma Week. Spearheaded by the World Glaucoma Association and the World Glaucoma Patient Association, World Glaucoma Week is a global initiative aimed at raising awareness of glaucoma, a disease that affects approximately 4 million Americans and 65 million people worldwide.

Talented Young Physician Joins the Medical Team at Mount St. John’s Medical Centre

St. John’s, Antigua, March 8, 2010 - Mount St. John’s Medical Centre (MSJMC) has recruited Dr. Vonetta George a young Antiguan physician to join its medical team as Senior Registrar attached to the Department of Surgery.

Dr. George completed a Residency Program in General Surgery in 2009 at the Manuel Ascunce Domenech University Hospital, Camagüey, Cuba. She received her medical degree from the higher Institute of Medical Sciences, Camagüey, Cuba in 2005 and holds a Masters in Emergency Medicine from the same institution.

Mount St. John's Medical Centre (MSJMC) Receives Donation from CLICO Club

St. John’s, Antigua, March 1, 2010 – Mount St. John’s Medical Centre (MSJMC) recently received a donation from the CLICO Club for the Asthma Unit which is a part of the MSJMC Emergency Department.

The club donated blankets and a large wall clock to the Nurse Manager of the Unit, Sister Denise Jarvis on February 26, 2010.

On hand for the presentation was the president of the club along with other members.

World Glaucoma Week kicks off with Caribbean Unity and Haiti Relief themes

World Glaucoma Week 2010 activities kicked off with a successful Cocktail Fundraiser at the Siboney Beach Club on Saturday Feb 27th despite heavy competition from many other events. The week is observed internationally from March 7th-13th this year and as usual is mostly spearheaded by the Antigua & Barbuda Glaucoma Support Group with assistance from service organisations such as the Lion's Club and the Boy Scouts, the Ministry of Health, the media and the local business community.

Antigua Baby is First Patient to Receive Radiation Treatment in the Bahamas under New Relationship between The Cancer Centre (Bahamas) and the Government of Antigua and Barbuda

St. John’s, Antigua, February 16, 2010 - Baby M, a wonderful, happy child from St. Johns, Antigua, has become the first patient from Antigua to be treated under the new relationship between The Cancer Centre, Bahamas, and the Government of Antigua.

Professor Hon. Arthur Porter, Managing Director of The Cancer Centre and Professor Karol Sikora, Director of Medical Oncology, reviewed Baby M at Mount St John’s Medical Centre in Antigua during their monthly Professors’ Cancer Clinic there.
