Antigua & Barbuda team goes to 11th pan American karate championships

The Antigua & Barbuda Karate Association (ABKA) is to be represented by a team of 13 for the upcoming 11th Pan American Karate Championships slated for August 14 – 15, 2010 in Georgetown, Guyana. The team will be made up of 10 black belts and three brown belts. The team captains for Kata are Sensei Iza Goodwin, a fourth degree black belt and the highest ranking female in Shotokan in Antigua, and Sensei Michael Gamble, a third degree black belt.

The Antigua & Barbuda Triathlon Association Darkwood Sprint Triathlon a Success.

The Antigua & Barbuda Triathlon Association Darkwood Sprint Triathlon got off to a great start on Sunday 18th July albeit a little late.

Just after 9am , 9 teams and 4 individual participants started the race with a 750 metre swim in calm waters off Darkwood Beach. Exiting the water athletes took to the roads on the 20km cycle ride completing 4 laps of a 5km loop taking them to Sugar Ridge & back. A 5km run completed the course , with 2 laps of a 2.5km loop to Ffryes turnoff and back.

Warriors Cup welcomes Harney Motors as a sponsor

Young Warriors Football Club (YWFC) today announced that Antiguan vehicular giant, Harney Motors, will be one of the sponsors of the Warriors Cup 2010 after months of negotiations.

A statement from the Club says they are delighted that Harney Motors has decided to assist with the staging of the sixth annual Warriors Cup, which will be contested from August 19-29. The preliminary round takes place at the YASCO Complex from August 19-22 and the final round is set for the Antigua Recreation Ground from August 26-29.

Antigua Swetes Reunion set

More than 200 overseas-based residents will be returning ‘home’ to celebrate with their villagers in the second reunion for the Swetes community starting on Saturday, 17 July, 2010 and ending on Saturday, 24 July, 2010.

The events begin with Meet-and-Greet at the V C Bird Airport on Saturday (July 17) when members of the organising committee, led by the President, Morrison Burton, will hold a reception for those flying from England, the United States, Canada, the US Virgin Islands and St Maarten.

Prize Money for Montserrat Volcano Half Marathon Increased

The Montserrat Running Club wishes to announce an almost 50% increase in prize money for the 2nd Montserrat Volcano Half-Marathon. The main beneficiaries will be the top female participants in the half-marathon, who will now receive the exact amount of cash as their male counterparts. Therefore, both the first place female and male runner will now each receive EC$1000, EC$750 for finishing second and EC$500 for third. The first youth under the age of 18 years will receive EC$500.
