New elected President for the the Antigua Barbuda Co-operative Credit Union League.

Mrs. Carol Spencer-Brown was elected President at the last Annual General Meeting of the Antigua Barbuda Co-operative Credit Union League. Other members serving are Mr. Emil Michael Vice President, Mr. Seymour Blackman Treasurer, Mrs Nadine Agustine Secretary, Mr. Sylvester Joseph Assistant Secretary /Treasurer.

ABCCUL is the umbrella body for Credit Unions in Antigua. We assist in mobilizing, organizing and educating to aid in the continued strengthening of the Credit Union Movement and in turn meet the best interest of its members.

St. John’s Cooperative Credit Union Loans Officer receives Scholarship

St. Johns Co-operative Credit Union Loans Officer Ms. Claudette Harris was selected from among the OECS credit unions for a scholarship training in “community-based Micro-financing”, to COADY International Institute - St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia, Canada

The intensive professional certificated course was afforded jointly through a part scholarship from COADY International Institute, the collaboration of Eastern Caribbean Co-operative Central Ltd and her employers, the St. John’s Co-operative Credit Union.

Agro –Financing Seminar Wraps With Calls For More Loans Approval

June 16,2009 … Minister of Lands, Housing & The Environment Hilson Baptiste has called on financial to help protect our food security with the approval of more loans for micro –financing.

Baptiste was speaking at the Micro –Financing of Agriculture & Agro –Industry seminar held at the Point Wharf, Tuesday.

The seminar, which attracted a cross –section of financiers, fisher-folks, farmers and agro-processors ended on a high note with the parties having a clearer understanding of the criteria that they should follow when applying for financing to start –up agricultural business.

ECCB Addresses Bank of Antigua Issue

The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank has noted with concern the situation surrounding the Stanford International Bank, an offshore bank registered in Antigua and Barbuda with international affiliates.

The Bank of Antigua, which is owned by the Stanford Group is not an offshore institution. It is a domestic bank licensed under the Banking Act of Antigua and Barbuda and Regulated by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank.

Our inspections reveal that the bank is sound and has been compliant with the rules and regulations under the Banking Act.
